Abu Dhar Al-Gifari (R) Struggle for Equality

Abu Dhar Al-Gifari رضي الله عنه was among the very first to accept Islam, and the story of how he did it is unforgettable. He came to Makkah searching for the new Prophet, found him, believed — and then went straight to the Ka'bah and announced it aloud in front of the Quraysh, who beat him for it. He did the same thing the following day.

That was the pattern of his whole life. He stood up for what he believed when it was dangerous, and he did not soften as the years passed and the Muslims grew powerful. He was known above all for insisting that wealth be shared and that no Muslim should live in luxury while others went without — a position that made him uncomfortable company for the influential, and that he held to anyway.

He kept the same enthusiasm for supporting the Prophet ﷺ and the cause of Islam from his first day to his last.

About the Golden Series
