Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam (R) The Disciple

Az-Zubair bin Al-'Awwam رضي الله عنه accepted Islam when he was fifteen years old. That detail matters more than it first appears: the Muslims at that point could be counted on two hands, there was no community to join and no advantage to be had, and a boy of fifteen chose it anyway.

He was the Prophet's ﷺ cousin and, later, married to Asma bint Abu Bakr رضي الله عنهما. He is remembered as the first man in Islam to draw a sword in Allah's cause — hearing a false rumor that the Prophet ﷺ had been seized, he came running through the streets of Makkah with his blade already out.

He grew up to be one of the greatest warriors the Muslims had, fought in every major battle, and was counted among the senior Companions. The Prophet ﷺ called him his hawari — his disciple and devoted helper — which is where this book's title comes from.
