Arabic: Jame Al-Tirmadhi

Jami' At-Tirmidhi is distinctive among the six collections for what its compiler added rather than what he gathered.

Imam At-Tirmidhi did not only assemble narrations. He graded them, recorded the differing opinions of the jurists on the rulings they support, and named which Companions had narrated similar reports. That method effectively founded a discipline, and it is why his collection remains as useful to a student of fiqh as to a student of hadith.

He studied under both Imam Al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim, and the rigor shows. His commentary on the narrators, assessing the reliability of each chain of transmission, is a substantial part of the work's enduring value.
