Arabic: Sunan Ibn Majah

Sunan Ibn Majah is the sixth of the canonical collections, and its particular value is what it preserves that the others do not.

Imam Ibn Majah traveled across Khurasan, Iraq, the Hijaz, Egypt and Syria seeking out reliable narrators, and a considerable body of narration reaches us through his work alone. Without it, that material would have been lost.

The scope is wide — theology, prayer, fasting, ethics and social conduct — and his thoroughness in covering subjects the earlier compilers had treated more selectively is part of why the collection earned its place among the six.

The Six Canonical Collections in Arabic

• صحيح البخاري — Sahih Al-Bukhari
• صحيح مسلم — Sahih Muslim
• سنن أبي داود — Sunan Abu Dawood
• جامع الترمذي — Jami' At-Tirmidhi
• سنن النسائي — Sunan An-Nasa'i

All six are also available bound together in Al-Kutub As-Sittah — one volume, and gathered by subject in Al-Jami' Al-Kamil, 12 volumes.
