If a household owns one hadith book besides a mushaf, it is usually this one. Imam An-Nawawi selected approximately two thousand narrations from Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah, and arranged them by subject — producing something that works as an introduction to hadith and as a daily reader at the same time.
How It Is Arranged
372 chapters across 19 sections, covering every aspect of belief and moral conduct: sincerity of purpose, spending in the way of Allah, the rules of fasting, seeking knowledge, attending funerals, safeguarding the Qur'an, and the books of good manners, the etiquette of eating, dress, and of sleeping, lying down and sitting.
That arrangement is why it endures. A reader with a question about a specific matter of conduct can find the chapter; a reader with no question at all can open it anywhere and find something worth carrying through the day.
The Edition
Large-format Arabic, suited to reading aloud, teaching and masjid use. Arabic only. Compiled by Imam An-Nawawi, the great scholar of hadith and fiqh of his era.
