Why the Day Is Divided This Way

Because it maps onto the prayers rather than onto the clock. A child reading this absorbs the shape of a Muslim day without being told about it — that the day is measured in prayers, and that the stretches between them each have their own duas.

The school books in the middle are worth noting. Assembly and the classroom are where a Muslim child in the West spends most of his waking hours, and almost no Islamic children's book goes there.

This series is great in concept but not in execution. I am assuming these books were translated from another language but not reviewed by a native English speaker. The English is awkward at best and often flat out incorrect. I had to stop, read ahead, and completely reword the stories. Most of the prayers do not have an English translation. If the parent cannot read Arabic, then they can't explain or read the prayers to their children. There are also simple punctuation errors. These books are not usable in this condition unless I want to rewrite them myself including trying to translate the prayers. They should be pulled from the catalog and put up for reediting.
