Assurance of Paradise by Giving Charity

A woman came to 'A'ishah رضي الله عنها with two small children, asking for food. There was one date in the house. She gave it to them, and the mother took it, split it in half, gave one half to each child, and ate nothing herself.

When the Prophet ﷺ was told, he said that Allah had assured her Paradise because of it.

Why This Story for Children

Because it removes the excuse before a child ever learns it. Charity is not something you do when you are rich. This woman had one date. She had nothing left after giving it, and it was enough.

A child who absorbs that at six approaches money differently at twenty-six — and it lands far better as a story about a mother and two hungry children than as an instruction to be generous.
