Charity even with a Trifle

الصدقة ولو بتيسير

Charity Even with a Trifle by Abdul Malik Al-Qasim collects the verses, Ahadith and sayings of the Salaf on Sadaqah — how it shades its giver on the Day of Resurrection, lightens the reckoning, weighs down the scale and helps a person across the Sirat. The title is the point: the amount matters less than the giving.

Most people who give little give little because they assume a small amount is not worth giving. The title of this booklet answers that directly, and so does its content.

Abdul Malik Al-Qasim has gathered the verses, authentic Ahadith and sayings of the righteous predecessors on Sadaqah — not to argue that charity is good, which nobody disputes, but to show what the texts actually say it does.

What the Texts Promise

  • Sadaqah shades its giver on a day of severe heat when there is no other shade
  • It makes a person's reckoning lighter
  • It makes his Mizan — the scale of good deeds — heavier
  • It helps him cross the Sirat
  • It raises his rank in Paradise

Ibn Al-Qayyim put it more starkly still: charity rescues a person from Allah's punishment. Though a servant's sins and mistakes are steering him toward destruction, Sadaqah steps in, ransoms him and saves him.

Why This Reframes Giving

Read as a list of consequences rather than an appeal, charity stops looking like an expense and starts looking like the best transaction available. A person keeps what he gives and loses what he hoards — that is the logic the texts set out, and it is enough to make anyone with sense eager to give.

The booklet's persistent theme is that the trifle counts. A date, a smile, a kind word, half a dirham: the texts attach reward to each, and a person waiting until he can give impressively will usually die still waiting.

Who It Is For

Anyone whose giving has become an annual calculation rather than a habit. Ramadan reading. Fundraising committees and masjid appeals. Study circles. Short, quotable and useful to read before writing a cheque.

bismillah. This is a great book. Full of hadith and sayings of the salaf. Warning against the fear of poverty and the true nature of charity. The author mashallah did a great job offering reflections of many of the hadith relating them to modern times where our actions are in contradiction to the sunnah way of giving charity.
