Among the good the Prophet ﷺ guided us to, and the evil he warned us against, is a body of manners covering both worldly and religious matters — worship on one side and dealings on the other: with one's family, one's children, one's acquaintances and with strangers.
That body of guidance is scattered across a great many narrations and across the works of scholars who collected them. Shaykh Fu'ad ibn Abdul-Aziz Ash-Shulhoob studied the writings of Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, Ibn Muflih, As-Safarini and others, and summarized them into this single volume.
What Is Covered
The book works chapter by chapter through the situations of an ordinary life. The manners of reciting the Qur'an and the issues attached to it. The manners of giving the greeting of peace. The manners of seeking permission before entering another person's home, room, property or private space — a subject the Qur'an addresses directly and that most people have never studied.
From there it moves through the wider ground: eating and drinking, dress, gatherings and conversation, visiting the sick, travel, the mosque, the marketplace, sleeping and waking, and the specific rights owed to parents, spouses, children, neighbors and guests.
Why It Is Worth Owning Rather Than Reading Once
Manners are situational. You do not need the etiquette of visiting the sick until someone is ill, or the manners of travel until you are packing. A book of this scope earns its place by being on the shelf when a situation arises — and by being consulted a hundred times over the years rather than read once.
The scholars it draws on are the reason to trust it. Ibn Al-Qayyim and Ibn Muflih wrote at length on conduct, and having their work summarized into one accessible volume is a considerable service.
Who It Is For
Every household. New Muslims learning how the religion shapes ordinary interaction. Parents and teachers, who can work through a chapter at a time with children. Students of knowledge. Anyone who has wondered whether there is a Sunnah for something and had nowhere to look it up.
