The Two Hadith the Book Is Built On
The Prophet ﷺ said: "When you indulge in al-'inah (interest) transactions and take hold of the tails of cows and become satisfied with cultivation and abandon striving in His Way, then Allah shall permit your humiliation and He will not lift it from you until you return back to your religion." [Abu Dawud no. 3455]
He ﷺ also said: "The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish." Someone asked: "Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?" He replied: "No, you will be numerous at that time; but you will be like the scum carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take the fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and place wahn into your hearts." Someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what is wahn?" He replied: "Love of the world and hatred for death." [Abu Dawud no. 4297]
The Question the Book Asks
It is abundantly clear that the Muslims have been afflicted with great trials, their unity shattered, their strength exhausted and their ranks scattered. And so we continually ask ourselves, in private and public gatherings: what is the cause that has led the Muslims to this state? What is the underlying reason for their arrival at this level of debasement?
The Diagnosis
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) discusses the important issues that caused the downfall of Muslims and their solutions in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah. The two hadith above name the causes with unusual precision: attachment to unlawful wealth, contentment with worldly comfort in place of effort, and above all wahn — love of the world and hatred for death.
This book contains two treatises of the Shaykh dealing with this important subject, which is often overlooked.
The Call It Ends On
Allah, the Most High, has said: "This nation is the best raised for mankind. It enjoins good and forbids evil." (3:110) O Muslims, realize your potential, return to the truth, return to the Book and the Sunnah, and Allah will give you strength and honor.
Who It Is For
Muslims concerned with the state of the Ummah who want the analysis grounded in revealed text rather than in political commentary alone.
