This is the book to give someone who wants the whole of the essentials in one place: what to believe, how to worship, what the surahs he recites actually mean, how to conduct himself, and how to build a household.

The Foundations First

It opens with the completeness of the Shari'ah, the four issues, the three foundations every Muslim must know and apply, and the distinction between Islam, Iman and Ihsan — the framework everything after it hangs on.

The Five Pillars in Detail

  • The two testimonies — worship (ibadah), the existence of Allah, the categories and virtue of Tawhid, the categories of shirk, protecting belief, and the danger of exaggerating over righteous people
  • Prayer — the prescribed prayers and their units, congregational prayer and the rulings for the imam, the adhan and iqamah, Jumu'ah, other prayers, and the rulings of funerals
  • Zakat — the categories of wealth on which it falls due, worked through in turn
  • Fasting — including Zakat al-Fitr
  • Hajj — Umrah first, then Hajj, its deeds, and how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed it

And Then What Follows

The second half is what distinguishes the book. It gives the tafsir of Surah Al-Fatihah and the short surahs a Muslim recites daily — An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, An-Nasr, Al-Kafirun, Al-Kawthar, Al-'Asr, Al-Bayyinah and Al-Qadr. Most people recite these thousands of times without knowing what they are saying, and a page of explanation changes the prayer permanently.

After that: the Sunnah, selected invocations for young and old, supplications for the day and night, the Prophet's ﷺ biography and manners, Islamic characteristics, what is lawful, guidance for youth, certain forbidden deeds, and marriage.

Who It Is For

New Muslims wanting one substantial book rather than a stack. Families. Islamic schools and new Muslim classes, where the structure works directly as a syllabus. Anyone who learned the religion in fragments and would like to see it whole.

As-salam mu alay kum, I brought this book recently and I found it very helpful in terms of going deeper into the 5 pillars of Islam. It's easy to read and states things quite clearly compared to other books.
