The Light within Islam

Most people's picture of Islam has been assembled for them from events they had no part in and coverage they did not choose. This book is aimed at the reader who has noticed that and would like to check.

Three Subjects

The content is focused deliberately rather than attempting a survey:

• The Unity of God — the foundation, and the point from which everything else in Islam follows
• The structure of the Islamic faith — what it is actually built out of, and how the parts fit together
• The distinction between Islam and Christianity — treated directly rather than tactfully avoided

That third topic is included because it is where most Western readers' questions actually sit. A reader raised in or around Christianity is not comparing Islam to nothing; he is comparing it to something, usually without having examined either carefully.

Why Simple Is the Right Choice

The book calls itself simple, and that is a design decision rather than a limitation. Misconceptions do not persist because people examined the evidence and drew the wrong conclusion. They persist because nobody ever sat down and read anything.

A short book gets read. A comprehensive one gets intended. For the specific job of replacing a caricature with an outline, the first is worth more.

Non-Muslim colleagues, neighbors and classmates who have asked a genuine question. Da'wah tables, campus societies and open days. Muslims who want something to hand over that opens a conversation rather than closing one. Priced for buying in quantity.
