یہ تاریخ کائنات ارضی وسماوی کی تخلیق سے شروع ہوتی ہے اور قیامت کے بعد تک کے مفصل احوال پر کلام کرتی ہے ۔ اس کے ساتھ ہی تخلیق کائنات، اور ملائکہ و ابلیس و شیاطین اور حضرت آدم و حوا کی تخلیق پر سیر حاصل بحث ہے ۔ اس کے بعد مختلف اقوام میں مبعوث ہونے والے انبیائے کرام علیہم السلام اور ان کی قوموں کے تفصیلی حالات قرآن و سنت کی روشنی میں بیان کئے گئے ہیں ۔ دیگر مستند تاریخی حوالوں سے انبیائے کرام علیہم السلام کے زمانے اور نام و نسب متعین کئے گئے ہیں ۔ حضور نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہٖ وسلم کی سیرت سے قبل عرب جاہلیت کے تاریک دور کو روشن کیا ہے ۔ پھر حضور صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہٖ وسلم کی مکمل سیرت و سوانح بیان کی گئی ہے جو کئی حصص پر منتہی ہوتی ہے۔ پھر خلفائے راشدین رضی اللہ عنہم اجمعین کے خیرالقرون کی تاریخ ہے۔ اس کے بعد مصنف نے تمام اسلامی سلطنتوں کی مفصل تاریخ اور ان کے تناظر میں دنیائے کفر کے عالمی حالات قلمبند فرمائے ہیں ۔ مصنف کی یہ کوشش کامیاب رہی ہے کہ کوئی اہم واقعہ یا کسی اہم شخصیت پر پردہ نہ پڑ ا رہ جائے ۔ فللّٰہ الحمد مصنف نے قارئین کو تاریخ ذہن نشین کرانے کے لئے ہر سن کے آخر میں تمام اہم واقعات کو چند سطروں میں دوبارہ بیان فرما دیا ہے ۔ جس سے قارئین کے لئے تاریخ یاد رکھنا از حد سہل ہو جاتا ہے ۔ مصنف نے ہر سن کے آخر میں تمام اہم متوفییات، ان کی پیدائش و وفات اور ان کی سوانح کو بھی بیان فرما دیا ہے ۔ لیکن تاریخ ابن کثیر کو دیگر تاریخی کتب پر جو امتیاز و فوقیت حاصل ہے اس کی بڑ ی وجہ مصنف کا ممکنہ حد تک قرآن و حدیث اور مستند اقوال و دلائل کو مآخذ بنانا ہے۔ جس کی وجہ سے اس تاریخ کی اسنادی حیثیت مشرق و مغرب تمام دیار میں مسلّم ہے ۔ مصنف کا نام تفسیر کی طرح تاریخ میں بھی ایک سنگِ میل کی حیثیت رکھتا ہے ۔ اب تک البدایۃ والنہایۃ اردو میں مکمل طبع نہیں ہو سکی تھی- اب اس کا مکمل اردو ترجمہ اور دیگر تاریخی کتب کے حوالہ جات کے اضافہ نے اس کو مدلّل و مکمل کر دیا۔ باذوق قارئین کی تسکین نظر کے لئے اس اہم تاریخ کو کمپیوٹر کتابت و طباعت کے ساتھ آراستہ کرتے ہوئے طبع کیا گیا ہے۔
