The full Tafsir Ibn Kathir runs to several volumes and, for many readers, several years. This abridgement puts the essential commentary into a single book of about 1,571 pages — substantial, but a book a person can own, shelve and actually work through.
Who Prepared It
The work was prepared and supervised by Shaykh Safi-ur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri, author of Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum and a scholar whose judgment on what to keep and what to set aside carries real weight.
That matters more in an abridgement than in an original. Anyone can shorten a book; the question is whether the person doing it knew which parts carried the argument.
What Is Preserved
Ibn Kathir's characteristic combination of riwayah — the transmitted narrations — and dirayah, the analytical insight applied to them. The core meanings and the essential narrations remain; what has been trimmed is the extended discussion that a specialist needs and a general reader does not.
