Pashto is the first language of tens of millions of people across Afghanistan and the northwestern provinces of Pakistan — and one of the languages with the least Islamic literature available relative to the size of its Muslim population.
Why an Edition Like This Matters
A Pashto speaker seeking to understand the Quran has usually had to work through Urdu, Persian or Arabic. Each of those is a second language for him, and understanding at one remove is not the same as reading in the language you think in.
This edition places the Arabic text alongside the Pushto translation, with tafsir supplied — so a reader recites from the original and understands from the facing text, without an intermediary language in between.
Who It Is For
Pashto-speaking families, in the region and in the very substantial diaspora across the Gulf, Europe and North America. It is also among the more valuable things to give an older relative, for whom Pashto may be the only language they read with real ease.
Masajid and Islamic centers serving Afghan and Pakhtun communities frequently buy several copies for their libraries, since editions in this language are not always easy to source.
