Short biographies of the Prophet ﷺ usually cover the same ground: birth, revelation, persecution, migration, battles, conquest, death. This one includes all of that and then keeps going into territory most brief accounts leave out entirely.

What Makes It Different

Alongside the narrative, Al-Hafiz 'Abdul-Ghani Al-Maqdisi records the details of the Prophet's ﷺ actual life: his noble lineage, his relatives, his wives and children, his servants, his physical description and manner (the Shama'il), his miracles, his scribes, the letters he sent to kings and governors, his armor and weapons, his riding animals, and his personal possessions.

That material is not decorative. A reader who knows what he owned, what he wore, who wrote for him and what he rode has a picture of a man rather than of a career — and it is that picture the Sunnah asks a Muslim to follow.

The Ten Companions

The second part gives the biographies of the ten given the glad tidings of Paradise — Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab, 'Uthman ibn 'Affan, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib and the six who follow them رضي الله عنهم. Pairing them with the Seerah in one volume is sensible: their lives only make sense against his, and his community only makes sense through them.

The Author

Al-Imam Al-Hafiz 'Abdul-Ghani Al-Maqdisi was a scholar of Hadith and Islamic history, and the title Al-Hafiz is not honorary — it marks a level of mastery over narrations and their chains that very few reached. What that means practically is that a reader can trust what is in this book, and trust the omissions equally: material a Hafiz of his standing left out was left out for a reason.

Who It Is For

Readers wanting a reliable overview from a classical source rather than a modern retelling. Students of knowledge. Families and Islamic schools. Anyone who has read a Seerah and wants the Shama'il material that most of them skip. Hardback.
