The influence of the Prophet's ﷺ mission is visible in almost everything the world now contains — beliefs and patterns of thought, culture and civilization, morals and modes of living, knowledge and learning. There is scarcely a sphere of human endeavor it has not touched.

Which makes it strange, as this book observes at the outset, that so many people alive today know little or nothing of his life, his mission, or the historical impact of either.

Written to Be Heard

This is the printed version of the spoken-word album of the same name, and that origin shows in the best way. It was composed to be listened to, so the sentences are shaped for the ear: clear, unhurried, without the density that makes a written biography hard going for a first-time reader.

The account is concise and authentic, and it includes a selection of prophetic sayings along with detailed references — so a reader who wants to check something, or go further, has somewhere to go.

The Author

Yusuf Islam came to Islam from a life spent at the center of Western popular music, where he was known as Cat Stevens. That background matters for the book's readership rather than its content: he writes as someone who arrived at this life story as an adult, without assuming a single thing his reader might not know, because he did not know it either.

Who It Is For

Non-Muslims wanting to know who this man actually was. New Muslims. Younger readers and school classes. Anyone who has begun a full-length Seerah and found it heavy going. Short and inexpensive, so it works for da'wah tables and welcome packs as well as private reading.

I bought these books to be part of dawah packages to other Americans. I thought that Yusuf Islam presented the biography of the Prophet in a simple and straightforward way so that the non-Muslim would be able to have a realistic understanding of our Prophet and the religion of Islam.
