Al-'Aqidah Al-Wasitiyyah (2 Vol. Set)

A judge in Wasit, Iraq, asked Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (661–728 AH) to write down the creed of Ahlus Sunnah. He composed Al-'Aqidah Al-Wasitiyyah in a single sitting, and it has been taught continuously ever since.

This edition pairs that treatise with the commentary of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-'Uthaymin — two large deluxe volumes, which is what the text requires when it is opened up properly rather than summarised.

What the Creed Establishes

• Tawheed — affirming Allah's Lordship, His exclusive right to be worshipped, and His Beautiful Names and Attributes without ta'til (denial), tahrif (distortion), tashbih (likening Him to creation) or false interpretation
• Belief in the unseen — the angels, the prophets, the revealed scriptures, the resurrection, Paradise, the Fire, and Qadar in its good and its hardship
• Refutation of deviations — the doctrines of the Jahmiyyah, Mu'tazilah, Ash'ariyyah and others, with the balanced position of Ahlus Sunnah established against each
• The middle course — Islam's path between the extremes into which those groups fell

Everything is argued from the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, according to the understanding of the Salaf as-Salih.

Why Ibn Al-'Uthaymin's Commentary

Because the original is brief to the point of density, and the terminology carries a great deal of weight per word. Shaykh Ibn Al-'Uthaymin was known above all for making difficult material clear without simplifying it away — he explains the terms, sets out why each position is held, and shows where the opposing arguments fail.

The result is a set a determined reader can work through alone, and one that will serve a teacher for years.
