Belief in Allah (Vol. 1)

الإيمان بالله (المجلد الأول)

Distorted ideas about Allah’s names and attributes have crept into Muslim thinking for centuries, often unnoticed by the people carrying them. This opening volume corrects course, and takes on modern challenges to Tawheed — including the theory of evolution — directly.

Belief in Allah by Dr. ’Umar Sulaiman al-Ashqar is Volume 1 of the Islamic Creed Series, and it opens the series where Aqeedah itself begins: with Tawheed, and with the distorted ideas about Allah that have crept into Muslim thinking over the centuries.

What the Book Covers

Al-Ashqar identifies the misunderstandings that have accumulated around Allah’s names and attributes, and argues that the only sound way to read the Qur’anic verses and hadiths that describe Allah is the way the first generations of this Ummah, the Salaf, understood them — without distorting the meaning and without giving it a shape no text supports. He also takes on modern challenges to belief directly, examining the theory of evolution and arguing it does not hold up against the evidence, before turning to the natural world itself: the signs in creation that the Qur’an repeatedly calls the reader to reflect on as proof of Allah’s existence and Oneness.

Who This Book Is For

Anyone who wants the case for Tawheed made from first principles — textual, rational and observational together — rather than assumed. A natural companion to Kitab At-Tauhid for readers who want the philosophical objections addressed as well as the fiqh of shirk.
