Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an (3-Part Set)

Author: Kareema Carol Czerepinski

Perfecting the recitation of the Noble Qur'an is one of the greatest acts of worship a Muslim can perform. Allah ﷻ revealed the Qur'an to be recited correctly, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught his Companions the precise pronunciation of every letter and every rule of recitation. Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an (3-Part Set) by Kareema Carol Czerepinski is one of the most respected and comprehensive English-language resources available for learning the science of Tajweed according to the recitation of Hafs 'an 'Asim by the way of Ash-Shatibiyyah. It has become a standard textbook in Islamic schools, Qur'an institutes, and Tajweed classes throughout the English-speaking world.

Designed specifically for non-Arabic speakers who possess a basic ability to read Arabic, this three-volume course systematically introduces every essential Tajweed rule in a clear, structured, and practical manner. The explanations are written in fluent English while preserving the authentic Arabic terminology, allowing students to gradually become familiar with the classical language of Qur'anic recitation without feeling overwhelmed.

Beginning with the articulation points of the Arabic letters (Makharij) and their characteristics (Sifat), the series progresses through the fundamental and advanced rules governing Noon Sakinah, Tanween, Meem Sakinah, Qalqalah, Ghunnah, heavy and light letters, various forms of Madd (elongation), Lam and Ra rules, stopping and starting (Waqf and Ibtida'), and the orthography (Rasm) of the Mushaf. Each lesson builds naturally upon previous concepts, enabling students to develop confidence while avoiding common pronunciation mistakes that can alter the meaning of Allah's words.

Unlike simplified Tajweed summaries, this series serves as a complete curriculum suitable for structured classroom instruction or guided self-study under a qualified Qur'an teacher. Numerous examples taken directly from the Noble Qur'an reinforce every rule, allowing students to immediately apply what they have learned during recitation. The logical organization of the lessons makes the books valuable for beginners while providing enough depth for advanced students, teachers, Imams, and Huffaz who wish to strengthen their understanding of Tajweed.

The final volume covers advanced topics often omitted from introductory texts, including detailed rules of stopping and beginning recitation, permissible and impermissible pauses, special words in the Uthmani script, the writing conventions of the Qur'an (Rasm al-Mushaf), and words that possess unique methods of recitation in Hafs 'an 'Asim. These advanced discussions prepare serious students for higher studies in Qur'anic recitation while reinforcing the importance of learning directly from qualified teachers.

One of the distinguishing features of this work is its balance between theory and application. Rather than merely listing rules, the author explains the wisdom behind them and demonstrates how proper Tajweed preserves the pronunciation transmitted from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through an unbroken chain of qualified reciters. Throughout the series, readers are reminded that Tajweed is not merely an academic discipline but an act of honoring the speech of Allah.

Whether you are beginning your Qur'an journey, teaching students in an Islamic school, preparing for Hifz, or seeking to perfect your recitation, Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an (3-Part Set) provides a thorough, reliable, and methodical foundation rooted in the traditional science of Tajweed. It remains one of the finest English references for anyone serious about reciting the Qur'an beautifully and correctly according to the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah.
