This is the book that won. In 1976 the Muslim World League announced a worldwide contest for the best biography of the Prophet ﷺ. One hundred and seventy-one manuscripts arrived in Arabic, Urdu, English, French and Hausa. The one submitted by Shaykh Safi-ur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri of Jamiah Salafiyah, Banaras, took first place.
Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum has since become the most widely read modern Seerah in any language, and this is the original Arabic in which it was written.
What Earned It That Place
The sourcing. Every stage of the Prophet's ﷺ life is traced through the Qur'an, the authentic Sunnah and reliable classical narrations rather than the popular material that accumulated over the centuries. It is a Seerah a scholar can quote from and a general reader can finish.
The narrative runs from Arabia before Islam through his lineage and birth, the first revelation, the Makkan years, the Hijrah, the building of the Madinan community, the expeditions and treaties, the conquest of Makkah, the Farewell Pilgrimage and his final days — with the lesson of each episode drawn out rather than left implicit.
