Our Children and Memorization of the Quraan

Most children who begin Hifz do not finish it, and the reason is rarely the child's ability. It is usually the arrangement around him: the schedule, the expectations, the atmosphere at home, and whether the adults understand what they are asking.

What It Provides

Educational strategies — proven methods and techniques for memorization tailored specifically to children, taking account of their developmental stage and how they actually learn, which differs sharply from how an adult memorizes.

Parental guidance — the role of a parent in encouraging and supervising the work, and how to create a home environment that supports it. This is the part most often missing. A child cannot carry a Hifz program on his own effort in a household organized around other things.

Spiritual and moral development — the reminder that memorization is not the whole objective. A child who completes the Qur'an and has not been formed by it has been given a technical accomplishment rather than an education.
