Most Hajj books tell you the rites. This one also tells you what it is actually like — which is the half that catches first-time pilgrims out.
What Makes It Different
The book gives a realistic view of Hajj as it is today, alongside detailed explanations of every rite. It covers the fiqh of Hajj, of Salah on the journey, and of personal conduct according to the Qur'an and Sunnah, so a pilgrim gets the best value from the time he spends in the holy cities.
Then it covers what no fiqh manual does: planning the journey, what to expect, and how to survive it. The author is explicit that all the suggestions have been tested and all the incidents and points are factual — this is a report from someone who has done it and watched thousands of others do it.
Its Practical Apparatus
- Pictures and diagrams for the sites and the movements between them
- A revision section for going over the rites before each stage
- An item-by-item checklist for preparation and packing
Points are deliberately repeated across sections, for emphasis and so that each section works on its own — because in Mina you will open the book at one page, not read it through.
The Author
Abu Muneer Ismail Davids is an active da'ee who teaches and lectures to Muslims and non-Muslims, and Hajj is his subject. Since performing his own obligatory Hajj in 1989 he has wanted to share what he learned with the Guests of Allah. In 1990 he was given the opportunity to work in Jeddah, where he lived for fifteen years — which is what stands behind the practical detail in this book.
Who It Is For
First-time pilgrims above all. Group leaders and mahrams responsible for others. Anyone advising family members preparing to travel. Read it well before departure, then take it with you.
