Selected Invocations

Selected Invocations (الدعوات المختارة) is a focused little treasury of supplications, compiled by Shaikh Muhammad bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Musnad and published by Darussalam. As the compiler writes in his introduction, it is offered “in the Name of Allah, Who hears the supplications and answers them” — gathering together a selection of authentic du’a’ for three of the most blessed occasions in a believer’s worship: during prostration (sujood), in the Witr prayer (qunoot), and upon completing the recitation of the Noble Qur’an (khatm), whether in Ramadan or at any other time of the year.

These supplications were assembled chiefly for the benefit of the Imam who leads the congregation — in Taraweeh, Qiyaam, and Witr — as well as for every worshipper who wishes to pour out his heart to Allah at moments when du’a’ is most readily accepted. The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that the servant is nearest to his Lord while in prostration, so let him make much supplication therein; and the night prayer and the conclusion of the Qur’an are likewise occasions of great mercy. This booklet places a carefully chosen set of those prayers at your fingertips, so they may be recited correctly and with presence of heart.

True to its purpose, the book is produced as a slim, pocket-sized paperback that slips easily into a pocket, a bag, or a place on the prayer mat — a practical companion for the masjid and the home alike. Shaikh Muhammad bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Musnad is best known as the diligent compiler behind one of Darussalam’s most significant works in the English language, the monumental eight-volume Fatawa Islamiyah (Islamic Verdicts). In that collection he gathered the rulings of the senior scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah — among them Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Aziz bin ‘Abdullah bin Baz, Shaikh Muhammad bin Salih Al-‘Uthaimin, and Shaikh ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdur-Rahman Al-Jibreen, together with the Permanent Committee and the Fiqh Council — making authentic, evidence-based guidance accessible to Muslims everywhere.
