Purify My Heart is a powerful, spiritually enriching compilation that guides the believer on the path of inner purification (tazkiyah) and steadfastness on the Deen. This 90-page paperback brings together three treatises by respected scholars — a concise guide to “how to rectify the heart” by Shaykh Abu Islam; a rigorous discussion of the “Obstacles of Repentance” by Ibn Taymiyyah; and a reflective treatise on “Renouncing Worldly Pleasures to Gain Nearness to Allah” by Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyah.

The book addresses the spiritual diseases that afflict the heart — such as heedlessness, attachment to dunya, arrogance, envy, and love of desires — and offers practical steps to cleanse them through repentance, correct understanding, and detachment from what distracts the soul. It draws its approach from Qur’anic guidance and Prophetic teachings, reminding the reader of the hadith that “in the body there is a piece of flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt — it is the heart.” This hadith underlines the centrality of heart-purification in overall piety.

Additionally, Purify My Heart encourages the believer to engage in sincere repentance (tawbah), seek forgiveness, remember Allah (dhikr), and detach from excessive worldly love — moving the believer from mere outward worship toward inner transformation. It is suitable for any Muslim — young or old, new or seasoned — who wishes to deepen their relationship with Allah, safeguard their faith from spiritual decay, and cultivate a heart that loves Allah, fears Him, and seeks His pleasure above all.

As a concise yet potent resource for personal development, group study, or as a gift, this book stands out for its clarity, sound methodology, and direct relevance to the spiritual challenges facing Muslims today.

This book contains a compilation of three beneficial treatises that will aid, by the permission of Allah, the believer in his quest to purify his/her soul and remain firm on the religion of Islam. The book is divided into three parts:

  • How to rectify the heart, by Shaykh Abu Islam (a student of Imam al-Albani)
  • Obstacles of repentance, by Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah
  • Renouncing worldly pleasures to gain nearness to Allah, by Imam Ibn al-Qayyim

We ask Allah the Exalted to make this a benefit to all our brothers and sisters. Indeed, He has the power to do all things.

As-Salaamu Alaykum, The context of the book is, no doubt, 100 % Saheeh, mashaa Allaah. But, there are more than several misspellings. Likewise, verse 3 in Soorah Aal- Imraan, has not been properly translated, it reads: 'O Allah do not make our hearts go astray after You have guided us and make loved to us our offspring indeed You are the Beloved.' {al-Imran [3]:8} ...'and make loved to us our offspring..' Is wrong. It should read: ...'and grant us mercy from You...' Another mistake is, and Allaah knows best, I will give the author the benefit of the doubt, but what is apparent is it seems like a mistake in Aqeedah [Belief]. And I'm not taking his words out of context either, the author states: 'If for example, someone who sits in front of the television and listens to the news, he forgets to pray and worship Allah, such a person immediately changes from a state of belief to disbelief.' Did not Allaah state: 'Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error -[al-Baqarah 2:286] And, didn't the Prophet, sall Allaahu aleyhi wa sallam, state: 'Allaah has forgiven my Nation for mistakes, what they forget, and what they are forced to do.' [Narrated by Ibn Maajah [2043], classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah.] The other two parts of the booklet by Ibn al-Qayyim and Ibn Taymiyyah are sound. That is all. Wallaahu Alem.
