About Al-Mundhiri
Al-Hafiz Zaki-ud-Din Abdul-Azim Al-Mundhiri (rahimahullah, 581–656 AH) taught hadith for roughly twenty years at Dar al-Hadith al-Kamiliyyah, a school in Cairo founded specifically to house him and his teaching. Imam adh-Dhahabi said that no one alive in his time had memorised more hadith. He was Shafi'i in fiqh, and beyond this abridgement of Sahih Muslim he is best known as the author of At-Targhib wat-Tarhib (Enticement and Deterrence), a major collection of hadith on virtuous deeds and their rewards that scholars still rely on today. A scholar of that standing abridging Sahih Muslim is precisely why this Mukhtasar has been used and trusted for centuries, rather than being treated as a modern condensation.
Who Abridged It
