Most Ahadith are the sayings, deeds and approvals of the Prophet ﷺ under divine guidance, and their authority is traced to him. A small number are different.
In Ahadith Qudsi — sacred Ahadith — the authority is attributed to Allah, conveyed through the Prophet ﷺ. The words are the Prophet's ﷺ; the statement is Allah's.
That places them in a category of their own: not Quran, since the Quran is Allah's word in wording as well as meaning, but nearer to it than an ordinary narration. They are among the most affecting texts in the entire tradition for exactly that reason.
