Tajweed Quran with the Ten Quranic Readings/Qiraah

This special copy of the Tajweed Qur'an facilitates understanding of the differences in word intonation from one narration to another.

The mushaf text has been reduced, leaving an extra-large border area describing the different qira'at. At the bottom of each page is a color-coded key to the ten recitations described above it. Quranic words that are pronounced differently in different narrations are marked and pointed out, with each variant attributed to the readers who recite it that way.

Why the Ten Readings Exist

The Prophet ﷺ said that the Qur'an was revealed in seven ahruf, and the recognized readings preserve that latitude. Each of the ten is transmitted through an unbroken chain of narrators back to him, and all ten are authentic — the differences lie in points of pronunciation, vowel lengthening and occasional vocalization, never in meaning.

Most Muslims go a lifetime without encountering more than one. This mushaf puts all ten on the page at once.

Who Needs an Edition Like This

Students of qira'at, for whom this replaces a shelf of separate mushafs and reference works. Teachers of recitation. Imams who lead congregations of mixed origin and want to understand what they are hearing.

It is also a genuine answer to a question that troubles some Muslims and is used against them by others: whether the Qur'an has variant readings. It does, they are documented, they were transmitted deliberately, and they are set out here in full — which is a considerably stronger position than denying the question.

This is a specialist mushaf. For ordinary recitation and memorization, the standard Hafs edition is the one to buy.

The Color-Coded Tajweed System

Dar Al Maarifah's editors grouped the letters phonologically and gave each group its own printed color:

• Red — letters requiring extended vocalization (madd)
• Green — nasalized letters (ghunnah, ikhfa, idgham)
• Dark blue — the emphatic ر (raa')
• Light blue — qalqalah, the echoing letters
• Gray — letters written but left unpronounced

Twenty-four tajweed rules are applied this way, leaving the reader's attention free for the meaning of the verse rather than the mechanics of the recitation.
