The Quran ties them together explicitly and repeatedly — obedience to the Messenger is placed alongside obedience to Allah, not beneath it — which is a stronger claim than most Muslims have registered.

Why It Matters Now Particularly

Because the argument that the Quran alone is sufficient circulates widely, and it sounds reasonable to someone who has not thought it through. A Muslim who accepts it discovers he cannot pray, since the Quran does not specify how.

Making that dependency clear is more effective than treating the position as an error to be denounced.
