The first thing the Messengers called their people to was the worship of Allah alone, and to avoiding whatever corrupts that belief.
Because correct aqidah is the foundation of the whole religion — no deed or action is valid or accepted by Allah unless it rests on sound belief.
That is a stronger claim than most people realize, and it is why a book on creed takes precedence over a book on practice.
The second half is the part most often missing elsewhere. A person who knows what correct belief is but has never had its opposite described to him has no way of recognizing the problem when he meets it.
