French: Livre du Tawhid (Monotheisme)

Kitab At-Tauhid is the text most commonly set as a first serious study in creed, and its authority rests on its method.

How It Argues

The author states a principle and then lets the Quran and the authentic Sunnah carry the argument. There is very little of his own voice in it, and that is deliberate — the essence of the Quran and Sunnah on this subject is placed before the reader in a very simple manner.

What It Establishes

The categories of monotheism, and then — at much greater length — what breaks them. Major and minor shirk, supplication directed to the dead, amulets, oaths by other than Allah, seeking omens, and excess in venerating the righteous each receive a chapter with the relevant evidences.

Studying It

It is short and dense, and it rewards being taken slowly, ideally with a teacher or a commentary alongside.
