The Prophet ﷺ said he was sent to perfect noble character. Not to add rituals to existing ones — to perfect character. That places adab nearer the center of the religion than most Muslims treat it, and this encyclopedia is the working reference for it.
Why an Encyclopedia Rather Than a Treatise
Because manners are situational. Nobody needs the etiquette of visiting the sick until someone is ill, or the manners of travel until he is packing, or the adab of disagreement until he is in one.
A book arranged for lookup earns its place by being consulted a hundred times over years rather than read once. That is what two volumes buys.
What Is Covered
Conduct in worship. Family — parents, spouse, children, relatives. Neighbors and guests. Speech, and what should not be said. Trade and dealings. Eating, dress, travel, gatherings, the mosque, the marketplace, sleeping and waking. Each with its evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

Arabic-reading households. Teachers, imams and khateebs, who will reach for it constantly. Students of knowledge.

موسوعة الآداب الإسلامية لعبد الله بن محمد المعتاز، في مجلدين.
قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: «إنما بُعثت لأتمّم مكارم الأخلاق» — لا ليزيد عبادات على عبادات، بل ليتمّم الأخلاق. وهذا يضع الأدب من الدين موضعًا أقرب مما يظنّه كثير من المسلمين، وهذه الموسوعة هي المرجع العملي فيه.
والآداب مقترنة بالمواقف: فلا يحتاج المرء أدب عيادة المريض حتى يمرض قريبه، ولا آداب السفر حتى يحزم متاعه، ولا أدب الخلاف حتى يقع فيه. فكتاب مرتّب للمراجعة يستحقّ مكانه بأن يُفتح مئة مرة على مدى السنين لا أن يُقرأ مرة.
ويشمل آداب العبادة، والوالدين والزوجين والأولاد والأرحام، والجار والضيف، وآداب الكلام وما يُتَّقى منه، والبيع والمعاملات، والطعام واللباس والسفر والمجالس والمسجد والسوق والنوم واليقظة — كل ذلك بأدلته من الكتاب والسنة.
