Are there any indicators that we have achieved Allah's love? The answer is yes. One of the signs that Allah loves someone is the acceptance of others he or she attains.

The Prophet ﷺ said, in the hadith collected by Al-Bukhari on the authority of Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:

"If Allah loves a person, He calls Jibril saying: 'Allah loves so-and-so; O Jibril, love him.' Jibril in turn loves him. Jibril then proclaims among the residents of Heaven: 'Allah loves so-and-so; therefore you should love him also.' So the residents of Heaven love him, and then acceptance is established for him on earth."

Why This Question Is Worth Asking

Because most Muslims spend their lives hoping for Allah's love without ever considering that the sources describe what earns it and what indicates it.

The Qur'an is explicit about whom Allah loves: those who repent, those who purify themselves, the patient, the just, those who trust Him, those who do good. Each is a stated condition rather than a mystery.

The Sign in the Hadith

Acceptance on earth — that people find themselves drawn to a person — is described as the consequence of Allah's love rather than the cause of it. That distinction is the heart of the book, and it cuts against the instinct to pursue people's approval directly.

Who It Is For

Any Muslim whose worship has become a matter of obligation discharged rather than a relationship pursued.
