The second most authentic hadith collection, newly re-translated
The work of Imam Muslim needs no introduction: his collection of the sayings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is one of the most authentic hadith collections in existence, second only to Sahih Al-Bukhari. This complete five-volume Urdu edition of Sahih Muslim, published by Dar-us-Salam on premium-quality paper in a reading-friendly format, contains every chapter under which Imam Muslim collected the Prophet's ﷺ sayings.
How rigorous the original selection was
Imam Muslim traveled across Arab lands, including Iraq, Syria, and Egypt, to collect hadith, gathering nearly three hundred thousand narrations in total. From that vast body, he included only 7,563 in Sahih Muslim, because his conditions for authenticity were exceptionally strict — designed to ensure that only the most reliable narrations made it into the final collection.
Why a new Urdu translation
Given Sahih Muslim's importance, it has been the subject of extensive commentary across the centuries, much as Sahih Al-Bukhari has — among the Arabic commentaries, Imam An-Nawawi's Sharh holds a distinguished place, and several scholars in the Indian subcontinent produced Arabic and Urdu commentaries of their own. Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan's Arabic work and 'Allama Wahid-uz-Zaman's Urdu translation have been in wide circulation for a long time, but their language has grown noticeably dated. Recognizing this need, Dar-us-Salam undertook the honor of producing fresh Urdu translations of the Kutub Sittah in modern, standard style, publishing them to a high standard of print quality so contemporary readers can study and benefit from them more easily. This translation, with concise notes, was prepared by Professor Muhammad Yahya Jalalpuri.
