This dictionary translates words across six languages: Arabic, English, German, Spanish, Italian and French. Each page span has six columns, with the translation in each language in its own column.

Why the Column Layout Works for Travel

Because you can point at it.

A traveler who cannot pronounce the word can show the page, and the person reading it finds his own language in his own column. That works in a shop, a station or a hospital in a way that a phrasebook requiring correct pronunciation does not.

The six languages also cover most of Western Europe plus Arabic, which is a sensible set for anyone traveling between Muslim countries and Europe.
