Allah ta'ala says: truly, the one who fears Allah is the scholar. Indeed, a Muslim teacher should have fear of Allah in his heart in order to have a good start in this career. This fear will teach him the other qualities necessary to excel in it, as he does all of this for the sake of Allah.
Muslim first, teacher second. A teacher who has the technique and not the fear will manage a classroom competently and pass on nothing that matters. One who has the fear will find the technique, because he understands what is at stake.
Children absorb far more from what a teacher is than from what he says — which is the burden the lecture keeps returning to.
Accuracy, because a mistake taught is repeated for a generation. Patience, because the students who need most are the hardest to teach. Fairness, because children detect favoritism before adults do. And sincerity, because a teacher working for a salary and a teacher working for Allah behave differently in the moments nobody is watching.
Anyone teaching — in an Islamic school, a weekend academy, a halaqah or a public classroom. Also parents, who are teachers whether or not they think of themselves that way.
