What the Missing Ingredient Is

Brotherhood — and the argument is that its absence is the reason da'wah fails more often than any deficiency in the arguments used.

A community that is fractured along ethnic, national or sectarian lines cannot invite anyone into it convincingly. The invitation says one thing and the community demonstrates another, and people notice the second before they hear the first.

Reaching Out to Other Communities

The phrase is worth reading carefully. It means other Muslim communities as much as non-Muslim ones — and in most cities that is the harder work. Congregations of different backgrounds frequently operate within a mile of each other with no contact at all.

The lecture treats that as a da'wah problem rather than a social one, which is the reframing it exists to make.

Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas, and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. He completed a diploma in Arabic and then went on in the Islamic sciences.

The engineering background is visible in how he lectures — the arguments are structured, the definitions come first, and he tends to show his working rather than deliver conclusions.
