Kerala has one of the oldest Muslim communities anywhere outside Arabia. Islam reached the Malabar Coast through trade during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ or shortly after, centuries before it reached most of northern India.
That community — the Mappila Muslims — numbers in the millions, and Malayalam is what they speak, read and think in. A Quran translation in Urdu or Hindi is of no use to them.
Malayalam is closely related to Tamil and is written in its own script, which means readers of neighboring languages cannot substitute for it either.
