Why These Forty

An-Nawawi did not select them for length or fame. Each carries a principle rather than a single ruling — narrations that scholars have described as poles around which the whole religion turns.

That is why forty short texts have generated whole libraries of commentary, and why a student who has them secure has a framework for everything he learns afterward.

What They Cover

Faith, character, ethics and daily interactions — honesty, compassion, patience and the rest of what holds a person and a community together.

The compact format is deliberate: this is a book for carrying and returning to, not for shelving.
