The first generation of Muslim women is documented far better than most readers realize, and far better than it is usually taught. They were scholars, teachers, businesswomen, nurses on campaign, and the transmitters of a large portion of the Sunnah. This book gives them the treatment their record supports.

Who Is Covered

The Mothers of the BelieversKhadijah bint Khuwaylid, 'A'ishah bint Abi Bakr, Hafsah bint 'Umar, Umm Salamah and the others رضي الله عنهن — together with sixteen female Companions whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ honored with the glad tidings of Paradise while they were still alive.

That last detail is the book's organizing idea. These were not women judged great in retrospect. They were told, by the Prophet ﷺ himself, where they were going — and then carried on living ordinary lives afterwards.

What They Actually Did

The biographies show them supporting the Prophet ﷺ and the early community in concrete ways: transmitting knowledge and teaching it to men and women alike, funding the religion from their own wealth, tending the wounded, sheltering the persecuted, and holding firm through boycott, exile and bereavement.

Khadijah رضي الله عنها believed him before anyone else did and financed the mission from her own trade. 'A'ishah رضي الله عنها became one of the foremost jurists of her generation, with senior Companions coming to her with their questions. These are not decorative facts.

Documented, Not Idealized

Following the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, the author avoids exaggeration and works from authentic accounts. That restraint makes the book more useful, not less — a real woman who endured a real hardship is a model a reader can learn from, while an idealized figure is only something to admire from a distance.

Who It Is For

Muslim women looking for models with substance. Fathers and teachers raising daughters. Islamic schools, sisters' study circles and masjid libraries. Also for Muslim men, whose picture of the first generation is often missing half its members. Bound as a hardback for the use a family book gets.

This is another book that should be in everyone's library. Good read for the whole family. A whole book of women role models, inspiration and a mold for us all to follow. As the youth are now geared towards hyper-sexualization, they need books describing real people of high esteem. It's rough out there when the role models are not even real people, just actors who cannot be themselves. I enjoy this book
