Pillars of Islam: Shahadah & Salah

أركان الإسلام: الشهادة والصلاة

A short, inexpensive guide to the first two pillars of Islam — the Shahadah (testimony of faith) and Salah (prayer). It explains what the testimony actually commits a person to, the effect belief in Tawheed has on a life, and how the prayer is established correctly. Written for new Muslims, da'wah work and beginners' classes.

Islam is built on five pillars, and the first two carry the rest. Say the Shahadah and you have entered the religion; establish the Salah and you have taken up the duty that follows a Muslim from that day until his last. This booklet covers those two — and only those two — which is exactly what a person needs in his first weeks.

The Testimony of Faith

The book begins with what the Shahadah means rather than how it is pronounced. La ilaha illa Allah is not merely a statement that Allah exists; it is a denial of the right of anything else to be worshipped, and an affirmation that this right belongs to Allah alone. Muhammad-ur-Rasul-Allah commits the one who says it to accepting what the Prophet ﷺ brought, obeying what he commanded and worshipping only in the manner he taught.

From there the booklet turns to what belief in Tawheed actually produces — how sincere monotheism reshapes a person's fears, hopes, dependence and daily conduct — and to the practices that quietly contradict it.

Establishing the Prayer

The second part covers Salah: its standing in Islam, the warnings attached to abandoning it, its conditions and requirements, and the manner in which the Prophet ﷺ prayed. It is practical throughout, aimed at the reader who needs to start praying correctly now rather than study the fiqh of prayer in depth.

Who It Is For

New Muslims in their first weeks. Da'wah tables and outreach stalls that need something short and cheap to hand over. Beginners' classes, weekend schools and prison programs. Also useful for long-time Muslims who learned the prayer by imitation as children and have never had the testimony of faith explained to them properly.
