In reflecting on Islamic history, the question arises as to what has caused the Muslim community to become so disunited from country to country, state to state, and village to village? ...With the establishment of borders, the requirement of passports and visas for travel, the development of flags and national anthems, one's true Islamic identity has been lost.
We are at a time when Islamophobia is on the rise and the state of affairs of Muslims on a global scale has deteriorated tremendously. A Call for Unity shows how the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), during his twenty-three years of prophethood, established the most inclusive society the world has come to know. Following his example, Muslim communities around the world can implement these same changes and reunify their communities, enabling us to combat radical extremism in all its forms.
IMAM HASSAN ABDUL AKBAR was born and raised in New York City. His Islamic education began at an early age at the feet of his father Imam Abdullah Akbar (RH). Imam Hassan has a master's degree in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Arees, where he is a part-time instructor. He has traveled to Egypt to study the Arabic language and has lectured in Malaysia, Russia and across the United States.
