Muslims and Christians talk past each other more often than not, and the usual reason is that neither side is describing what the other actually holds. This book addresses that from one direction: it sets out what Christianity originally taught, how the doctrine developed afterwards, and what the difference between the two amounts to.

The Original Message

The first part concerns Jesus (Isa عليه السلام) — a Prophet of Allah honored in Islam, born of a miraculous birth, sent with a scripture to the Children of Israel. His call, like that of every Prophet before him, was to the worship of Allah alone. The author sets out that original message in its historical context, and against the expectations of the community he was sent to.

How It Changed

The second part follows what happened afterwards: how doctrines that the earliest followers would not have recognized entered the religion, how the scriptures were transmitted and altered, and how the councils of later centuries settled questions that had not previously been settled at all. The account stays with the historical record rather than resting on assertion.

Christianity Today

The final part looks at the present — the major denominations, what separates them, and where modern Christian belief and practice sit relative to the original message. It is written to inform rather than to score points, which makes it more useful in an actual conversation than a polemic would be.

Who It Is For

Muslims doing da'wah among Christian friends, colleagues and neighbors who want to speak accurately rather than from hearsay. Christians curious about how Islam understands their faith and the position it gives to Jesus عليه السلام. Students of comparative religion wanting a concise Islamic treatment. It is short enough to be read in a sitting and to be given away.
