Defending the second source of Islamic law

A small but persistent movement has, at various points in Islamic history, argued that only the Qur'an should be followed and that the Sunnah — the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — carries no binding legal authority. Hujjiyat Hadith (حجیتِ حدیث) — "The Authority of Hadith" is a direct response to that claim, establishing from the Qur'an itself, and from the practice of the Sahabah, that obeying the Prophet ﷺ is inseparable from obeying Allah.

What the book establishes

The book gathers the Qur'anic verses that command obedience to the Messenger ﷺ alongside obedience to Allah, the verses that describe the Prophet ﷺ as explaining the Book, and the consistent practice of the Companions in referring to his ﷺ statements and actions as binding — building a case that the rejection of hadith as a source of law is a departure from the Qur'an's own instruction, not an application of it.
