Praying toward a sutrah is a confirmed Sunnah established in many narrations, and it is among the most widely neglected — largely because in a modern room or office there is nothing to pray toward.

A barrier placed in front of a worshipper, marking the limit of his prayer space so that people do not pass directly in front of him. The Prophet ﷺ used a spear, a saddle, a wall, or the back of a riding animal — whatever was available.
In a masjid there are pillars and walls. In an office, a living room or an airport lounge there is nothing, and a portable sutrah is the practical answer.
