The body makes vitamin D by converting cholesterol on exposure to sunlight. Between sunscreen, indoor work and northern latitudes, a great many people no longer get enough sun to produce what they need.
Muslim women who cover, and anyone working indoors through a US or European winter, are among the most affected.
What Is in It
Each softgel contains 5000 IU of vitamin D3 in the form of cholecalciferol — the form the body produces itself, and the one better absorbed than D2.
Suggested Use
Take one softgel daily with a meal. Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so taking it with food that contains some fat improves absorption.
It is worth having a 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test before and during supplementation, so you know your actual level rather than guessing. At 5000 IU this is a higher-strength product, and your physician can tell you whether that is the right dose for you.
Mini Softgels
Small enough to swallow easily, which matters for a supplement taken every day for years.
