The story of Musa عليه السلام and Al-Khidr is one of the strangest in the Quran, and one of the most useful for a child.
A prophet follows a teacher who does things that appear plainly wrong — damaging a boat, and worse — and is told to be patient and not ask. He cannot manage it. And at the end each act turns out to have prevented something worse.
What a young reader takes from it is the point of this issue: that not understanding why something happened is not the same as it being unjust, and that Allah's knowledge covers what ours does not.
