What Makes This Translation Unique
It has been edited by kids, for kids.
Dr. Khattab worked with a team of students — mostly grades 2 to 5 — to identify difficult words and replace them with easier ones carrying the same meaning. Words that could not be replaced are explained in a glossary, along with the Arabic terms used in the book. Qualified Islamic and public school teachers and professional editors were involved throughout.
That process is the whole point. An adult deciding what a nine-year-old will find difficult gets it wrong constantly, in both directions. Asking the children themselves is the only reliable method, and almost nobody does it.

Why Background Matters for Children Especially
Because a child asked to accept a verse without knowing why it was said has been given a rule. A child who knows what was happening when it was revealed has been given a story — and stories are what children retain.

About The Clear Quran
The Clear Quran, translated by Dr. Mustafa Khattab, is among the most eloquent modern attempts to capture the elegance and vigor of the Quran in contemporary English. It is approved by Al-Azhar and endorsed by the Al-Furqaan Foundation and the Canadian Council of Imams.
For a translation to do justice to the Quran it has to be accurate, smooth, eloquent and accessible — and most translations manage two or three of those at the expense of the rest. This one is noted for its clarity and flow, and it reads as natural English rather than as translated Arabic.
Verses are grouped by topic with explanatory footnotes, which helps a reader follow the argument of a passage rather than meeting each verse as a separate numbered line.
